Re: RedGear Release Timetable

Happy Reformation Day! RedGear v1.0.0 is now available for CE 3.0, 4.1, and 4.2 devices. Licensed users may download the new version by entering their customer ID on the Downloads page. Here is a brief list of changes:

  • support for CE.NET, currently tested on:
    - SkeyePad (4.1)
    - Sigmarion III (4.1)
    - SmartBook G138 (4.2)
    - NetBook Pro (4.2)
    - MobilePro 900C unmodified (4.2)

  • Opera 8.65 working 100%

  • improved compatibility (Acrobat Reader, WMirc, etc.)

  • resolved freezes on soft reset

  • applications default to full screen mode

In the coming days, the Alpaxo Software website will gain additional content and design. Informational pages for each available product as well as direct purchasing links will be available. The forums will also be integrated with the theme of the rest of the site. After this work is completed, the RedGear source code will be undergoing a major overhaul for v1.1.

Re: RedGear Release Timetable

What is the procedure for obtaining a copy of Redgear 1.0.0?  I was not a pre-release user and, therefore, have no license number.

Re: RedGear Release Timetable

For now, you may follow the instructions in the first post of RedGear 0.9.2 - Prerelease Available to Public if you are interested in purchasing for CE 3.0+. Alternatively (or if you only want CE.NET compatibility), the Alpaxo storefront will be available within a couple days.

Re: RedGear Release Timetable

Now Opera works perfectly, it can be registered and have the download function.

Thanks Kirk I hope that you will continue to develope this software

Re: RedGear Release Timetable

Many thanks for RedGear 1.0.0, Kirk. Opera mobile downloads works (it was expected) and peculiar freeze of my Jornada during soft reset is out.
Some incompatibilities continue - TCMP (always) and HP backup (sometimes)

Re: RedGear Release Timetable

Thanks for RedGear 1.0.0, Kirk. I have been looking forward to it for a long time. But I met problem when I used it in my Sigmarion3.So how to make Opera work in S3,I've installed RedGear for ce.net4.1 and Opera 8.65 to the main memory ,made the memory enough to run Opera. But every time when I trying to launch Opera, it froze my S3 and I have to do a soft-reset to free it.
So does the Redgear support S3 well now ? Or I should do a hard-reset and make a clean system to test it?

Re: RedGear Release Timetable

Unfortunately, I don't have a Sigmarion 3 to test with. Note in the post that I tested CE.NET 4.1 compatibility using a Skeyepad. A freezing problem, similar to the one you describe, has also been documented on Smartbook (CE.NET 4.2). I'll be looking into resolving these problems for a quick 1.0.1 release; sorry for the inconvenience.

Re: RedGear Release Timetable

For now, use a text editor to edit \Application Data\Opera\opera.ini and remove the three lines containing opactivex.dll (they are right next to each other) and then save and close the file. Opera should now load.

Re: RedGear Release Timetable

Kirk, I'm assuming that 1.0.0 doesn't include support for mips or 2.11 arm, since those boxes aren't active on the downloads page; do you have an estimate on support for those versions?  I have both a J820 and an MP790, and it would be great to have the added functionality.  Thanks.

Re: RedGear Release Timetable

Thank you for your interest. MIPS support would probably be a long time in coming, since there are no programs written for MIPS beyond PPC2000, and there are already good ways to run those programs. CE 2.11 support is also a low priority.

Re: RedGear Release Timetable

Opera works great for me on my Jornada 728. I have not been able to get the plugins working, however. Has anyone out there got any solutions. Thanks again for Redgear.

Re: RedGear Release Timetable

It is actually advisable to disable plugins entirely for better performance. The only plugin I know of that works with Opera 8.65 is Flash 7, and this does not currently function under RedGear.

I feel like a kid in front of a toy store waiting for it to open.

Kirk:

I can't get Readgear 1.0.0....when click on arm link it show disclaimer web page after agreeing it download the same page but not the arm file.

Is there something wrong with the server?

Thanks

Re: RedGear Release Timetable

I have just now tried all three downloads and all works fine for me. Perhaps you have waited too long between clicking the download and clicking the agree button. (Or, if you are using a browser with over-aggressive caching such as Opera, you may need to force reload the agreement page.)

Re: RedGear Release Timetable

Interested buyers may now purchase on the dedicated RedGear product page.
