Topic: Disable Redgear to run upon soft reset?

Redgear is a great piece of work for sure. That's why I bought it in a heartbeat. Yet from time to time I just want it to run whenever I like it to, instead of having it run in the background by default. The reason is while redgear gets many useful PPC apps to work, it runs into conflict with quite a few HPC apps. Besides those reported in this forum, some useful apps misbehave with Redgear on, like TascalRegEdit (simply doesn't launch) and PocektRAR (menu bar disappear). Frankly I find it a bit inconvenient always having to disable Redgear upon a soft reset.

So my question is: is there a simple tweak, like editing a registry entry, that can disable redgear to run automatically?
It will also come very handy if I can set Redgear on/off with just one button/tap.

Re: Disable Redgear to run upon soft reset?

I'm not aware that PocketRAR has an HPC version? It is well-known that third-party hacks of Pocket PC applications are not well-compatible with RedGear, if that is how PocketRAR is being made to run.

There's no reason to soft reset; in fact I don't even know how this would disable RedGear. Rather, in the Start Menu there is a RedGear icon. When you click it, you will be presented with a dialog box with a checkbox for enabling/disabling RedGear. If you wanted to, you could assign a shortcut key in order to have easy access.

Thanks for your help.

Pardon my unclear expression. What I mean is not to reset in order to get redgear to run. Rather, from time to time i have to do a soft reset of my Jornada. And after soft reset, redgear is turned on automatically. Actually I prefer it not to run like this. I just want it to run whenever I want it to. It seems not the optimal solution to call redgear and turn it off every time after rebooting. More often than not I simply forget that redgear is on, and then get puzzled by some apps not running, or simply run something not agreeing with redgear and the system freezes (so another reboot ...). I'm afraid a shortcut key is not "easy" enough and should not even be necessary. My point is the Jornada runs mostly HPC2000/HPC pro apps, while those ppc apps constitute only a small subset. So it seems more natural to have redgear turned off by default.  My 2 cents.

Well the pocketpc version of PocketRAR runs on HPC just fine.  It is simply the best file archiver! smile
